The denitrification process is a technology specially developed for high-concentration effluents, such as industrial wastewater, pharmaceutical chemicals, landfill leachate and sludge dewatering and drying clear liquids for digesting sludge. The significant advantage of the denitrification process compared to other conventional denitrification processes is that the oxygen consumption is extremely low, and no organic carbon is required for conversion to nitrogen. This process can be easily retrofitted within existing structures.
The denitrification process can be divided into two stages
The first stage: nitrosation reaction between ammonia nitrogen and oxygen produces nitrite acid. Nitrosation reaction
The second stage: ammonia nitrogen and nitrite undergo anaerobic ammonia oxidation reaction to generate nitrogen.
